Chocolate and strawberries are what Valentine dreams are made of, right? Add in that this is a make ahead dessert and you’ve got a match made in Heaven! Each layer is easy to make and when combined, makes an easy but decadent dessert for the special people in your life.
Strawberry Chocolate Trifle
- 1 boxed chocolate cake mix
- 10 oz sparkling strawberry water or strawberry soda
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 8 oz frozen whipped topping, thawed
- 2 T powdered sugar
- 1/2 lb stawberries, diced
- 1 c heavy cream
- 1 c semi sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
For the chocolate layer:
Heat heavy cream for 1 minute in the microwave. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth. Refrigerate.
For the crumb layer:
Combine cake mix and sparkling water or soda. Bake in a greased 9×13 pan for 20 minutes or until cooked through. Let cool, then break up into crumbs.
For the cream layer:
Combine cream cheese, whipped topping and powdered sugar with an electric mixer. Gently fold in strawberries.
Divide up the 3 layer mixtures according to the amount of serving dishes and layers you want for each serving. This recipe worked better in smaller serving dishes because the cream mixture is hard to spread over a larger surface.
Alternate layers starting with cake crumbs, then cream mixture, then chocolate.
